Intentions Rule the World

If you send out your intentions to the universe, then stay focused and have faith, the universe has no choice but to reward your intent. It is law.—SL Taylor

Intentions Rule the World

One of the first books I ever read that dealt with the Universal Laws was the Attractor Factor by Dr. Joe Vitale. The book tells you to get clear, know what you do want, set your intentions to the universe and then let them go and have faith. So I tried it. I did what I thought I was supposed to do.

The problem was I didn’t quite understand what it meant to get clear about my intentions. I simply thought by stating a particular intent that I knew what I really wanted. Boy was I wrong. And, some of my intentions really fell under the, “be careful what you ask for because you just might get it” category.

One of the first intentions I set was that I didn’t want to work at my job any longer. That was it. That was all. Well, needless to say within a few months, I was no longer working at my job. I’d had a bad accident that left me unable to work for quite some time.

Now, at the time I never connected the intention with the accident. It was only after educating myself about the how the Universal Laws really work that I connected the two. But it wasn’t all bad. It was because of my accident, that I was able to pursue my passion and do what I’m doing now.

If I’d understood just what it meant to get clear before setting my intention, maybe I could have skipped all the drama and still arrived at my intended destination-full time writer. Getting clear means knowing exactly what you do want, not what you don’t want.

That’s where I made my mistake. I stated what I didn’t want, which was to not work at my job any longer. And guess what no job. I didn’t state what I did want which was to be a full time writer. It took a bit to get there. But eventually, I did get there.

This or That

Getting clear means knowing exactly what you do want. It doesn’t mean knowing how it’s going to happen. For instance when I finally realized what I was doing wrong. I simply set my intention that, “I allow myself to be self-employed and make money as a full time writer.” I didn’t worry about how it was going to happen and I didn’t make the intention too specific.

When you start adding specifics and trying to figure out how it’s going to happen, then you’re setting out to sabotage the intention. Any time you “this/that” an intention meaning you’re thinking: I can’t do, be or, have this until I do or have that or I can do, be, or have this if I do or have that first. You’re in essence saying to yourself I don’t believe or have faith enough to let the intention take its course.

Also, try to pay attention to how you phrase your intentions. Using the phrases I want or I need indicate a feeling of lack. Try to state each intention from a feeling of expectancy. I like to say, “I allow” because that tends to open you up to allow whatever intention you send out to happen.

When you start to feel any resistance about your intention try to find out where it’s coming from. We all feel resistance even to things that we choose. If you let it, it can stop you in your tracks. So when that little bit of doubt kicks in, try to figure out where it’s coming from. Then work on letting it go.

Allowing Your Intention

Accept that you feel resistance, focus on it and say to yourself, “it’s okay, I know that the resistance is there, I can feel it, and I can allow it to be.” Then take a moment and feel the resistance. You may actually feel a physical reaction such as your muscles tighten, or your stomach hurt. Then take a deep breath and to say to yourself, “I can also let go of any resistance I feel.” And do your best to let it go.

You may have to try this method a few times until you can feel that you’ve completely let go of the resistance. But you’ll know it’s gone because when you ask yourself again, “do I feel any more resistance?” You won’t have any reaction whatsoever. You’ll feel calm and happy with your intention. You’ll be ready to allow your intention to take its course just like you intended.

Now that I have a much better understanding of how to set intentions, I set them for almost everything, the little things as well as the biggies. I begin each day by saying, “I intend safety and security on this day for myself, my home and all of my loved ones, no matter where we go or what we do. I only intend to come into contact with those that are harmonious in my intent.”

Then as the day progresses I set other intentions even down to how I want my shopping experience to go. As the day ends, I set yet another intention. I say, “On this night I intend safety and security for myself, my home and all of my loved ones. I intend to sleep peacefully and soundly in a quiet home undisturbed and wake rested and refreshed (at whatever time I need to get up) ready for the miracles of a new day.” I can’t tell you the last time I had a restless night or needed to set an alarm clock to get up.

Once I’ve set an intention I relax and allow the universe do its job by having faith that my intention will be honored. I admit at first this was the hardest thing to do. Just let go and trust that all will be okay. But with practice I learned how to do it and now it’s second nature.

If you’re new to setting intentions, I’d suggest starting small and watching how each intention unfolds. Then when you get more comfortable and are sure, really sure about what you do want, put it out there and let the universe do the rest.
