“Visualization is daydreaming with a purpose.”– Bo Bennett
Daydream Your Way to Achievement
Visualization literally means to visualize – imagine; conceive of; see in one’s mind; is the act of making mental images.
Creative (Creativity) is a mental and social process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts, or new associations of the creative mind between existing ideas or concepts. Creativity is fueled by the process of either conscious or unconscious insight.
Creative visualization is probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of manifesting your desires. Almost every motivational book says to visualize exactly what you desire and soon you’ll manifest those desires. That’s true to a point. But there’s a bit more to it than just seeing a picture in your mind.
When you hear the phrase “creative visualization,” you immediately think that’s just daydreaming.” The real difference is that a daydream comes from a place of wishing and hoping and creative visualization comes from a place of clear inner focus and intent.
Elite athletes use this technique all the time. They mentally see themselves running through every routine as though they’re currently engaged in that routine. They also use visualization to gain confidence and give themselves a competitive edge before they compete.
It works because your mind only thinks in pictures. It’s like to old story where someone says don’t imagine a blue polka dotted zebra. Okay, what was the first thing you thought of? Did you see it in your mind?
When you’re able to focus on an outcome clearly enough using creative visualization your mind and body literally become trained to perform that function or achieve that goal.
Tips on Using Creative Visualization
When you’re setting goals and trying to visualize those goals, it’s important to be consistent. Try to make time in your daily routine. You’ll need at least 20-25 minutes a day to get full benefit from the visualization.
About five minutes before I start my visualization I set my intention, I say that I expect this time to be productive, quiet, and uninterrupted. Then I turn off the phone, lock my doors, and find my comfortable spot. For me this a comfy chair in my living room where I can put my feet up and relax.
Before you start any visualization, make sure you’re feeling good. Don’t begin if you’re not in a good place. You won’t get any benefit from the exercise and there’s a possibility that you can tap into the negative consciousness, something you want to avoid at all costs.
The real keys to using creative visualization to achieve your goals are focus and the ability to make the connection with your inner Self. The images you see in your mind must be well defined and specific. Now it may take some practice before you can see things clearly but it will happen if you keep at it.
Once you’re all set, happy, and comfy, close your eyes, and start with some deep breathing. As you take a breath in say to yourself, “I breathe in positive energy,” and as you breathe out say, “I breathe out negative energy.”
Don’t rush the process. Just breathe for a little while. Listen to your breath and clear your mind. The only thing you should be thinking is I breathe in positive energy, I breathe out negative energy. You’ll soon find yourself relaxing and feeling more comfortable. Don’t fight the feelings just go ahead and surrender to them.
As you do, you should begin to feel a sensation come over your body. Like you have butterflies in your stomach. That fluttery feeling you get when you’re really exited about something. Once this happens you can begin the process of visualizing.
I call this the “butterfly effect” because when you experience this feeling you are connecting with your inner Self and this is when things really begin to happen. One little thought ripples out into the universe and starts a glorious chain reaction.
Because of this, be sure to visualize your goals as though you’ve already achieved them. See the images as though they’re occurring now. Feel the feelings as though it’s happening now. I always end up with such a big smile on my face that my jaws are tired when I finish my visualization. This is how you want to feel as though you’ve achieved your goal and the outcome is really is happening NOW.
Change Directions
By practicing creative visualization consistently, you can literally change the direction of your life. You can achieve any goal you can visualize, success, buying that home, prosperity, or finding your soul mate. You’ll gain more confidence and in the process, you’ll learn more about yourself.
Once you learn to connect with your inner Self, (I call mine Joy) it’s not at all unusual to discover that the goals you’re focusing may not be the right goals for you at this time in your life.
You may find that you have a very different path ahead. But should this happen to you, don’t worry it will be the greatest discovery you’ve ever made in your life. So start visualizing your way to a better life.

When I was younger, I used to hate the question, “Where will you be in five years?” But now I know it’s a very valid question. And, it’s one you should ask yourself regularly. Setting yourself up to acquire your desires takes some planning and creative action.
